Compulsory to GCSE and optional at A Level, Biology at Abingdon is taught across six teaching laboratories. The Lower School and Third Year courses aim to give an introduction to various topics and key concepts that will ultimately be covered in more detail in the GCSE course as well as trying to develop some of the core skills needed for the subject. Topics range all the way from biological molecules up to ecological/environmental topics. While factual knowledge is key, we emphasise applying knowledge in unfamiliar situations and mastering practical, experimental skills. Outside normal lessons, subject clinics, Sixth Form extension classes and sessions for aspiring medics are offered, complemented by trips and a number of Other Half activities.
