Last term, students from partnership schools took part in the OX14 LP Academic Coaching Programme. To begin with, sixth form Coaches trained together to develop their listening and coaching skills as well as covering basic safeguarding training. They learnt about the coaching conversation and how to support a younger student to set goals.

After initial icebreaker activities, students were then paired up with younger students to carry out the coaching conversation and develop useful strategies for achieving short term academic goals. They enjoyed discussing topics such as homework, revision technique and specific academic challenges. Weekly sessions provided a supportive space for students to work on their personal goals and create actionable steps and were enjoyed by all. This leadership programme aims to provide sixth formers with skills that will be useful in the workplace and for life. Younger students appreciated the opportunity to be listened to and to work with an older peer.
