Upper sixth former, Jayden Zamler, has won a prestigious army scholarship which gives him a place at Sandhurst for officer training after completing his university course. The scholarship also provides some financial assistance for his final year at Abingdon and during his degree course where Jayden hopes to study Natural Sciences. This is the fifth army scholarship in the last four years for boys from the Abingdon CCF.

Over 100 candidates competed for the awards during a rigorous selection procedure which involved online interviews and an essay, followed by a 2-day assessment. The 2-day assessment tested candidates’ physical fitness, problem solving, leadership and team building skills.

Talking about his success Jayden admitted that he was ‘surprised but very happy’ when he heard the news. He hopes to join the Royal Engineers after finishing Sandhurst.

Jayden speaks very highly of the CCF at Abingdon which he joined in the Third Year. He says, “The CCF gave me the opportunity to practise leadership and communication skills. It also teaches responsibility and time management. It’s a great way to make friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie. I would really recommend it.”
