There was no missing the Abingdon ATOM Festival of Science and Technology 2018 last week, even without the arrival of a space rocket and a life-sized, nine metre wingspan pterosaur cross-section at the Amey Theatre over the weekend. The impact on inspiring interest in STEM subjects and raising awareness of our very special, local opportunities to work at the cutting edge of science and technology has been almost immeasurable. Abingdon School has played a huge part in the success of the Festival once more, with everyone from grounds staff to theatre technicians, porters, catering and cleaning departments and, of course, the science technician team, science teachers and our magnificent Science Ambassadors making the final weekend so memorable. Around four hundred primary school children from the Ogden Trust Abingdon Primary Science Partnership attended the ATOM Primary Science Fair on Friday and nearly five hundred and fifty members of the public visited the Family Science Fair at the Yang Science Centre on the Sunday. Despite the snow, everyone was determined to finish ATOM 2018 in style and we are particularly grateful to Dave from the grounds staff, who arrived at 6am to clear car parks and pathways for visitors. The school can be really proud of its efforts this weekend and we can't wait to get stuck in to ATOM 2019, a year which sees significant anniversaries, not least fifty years since Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made that one small step.
