Our Community service volunteers have really enjoyed visiting Abingdon residents on Tuesdays. These are some of their reflections on this term:

  • This term, we took part in a variety of activities with the residents of Fountain Court and Old Station House. Whether it was learning new games such as Sequence or taking part in intense pub quizzes, they always found ways to entertain both us and themselves. Overall, I have really enjoyed meeting these amazing people and hope to continue doing so in the future. Jed
  • It was AMAZING. This care home might just be one of the friendliest places I’ve ever been. It was an honour to meet residents Bob, Leslie and Margaret. Margaret was always cheerful; there was always a smile stretching across her face during our various conversations and encounters. She talked about her Scottish background while I described mine; she loves to share Scottish poems with me, which I found really interesting. Thank you to all the people that made this a once in a lifetime experience, I really enjoyed it. Aden
  • At Old Station House we had a great time playing Sequence, Uno and dominoes. I enjoyed bringing happiness to the older people. Thank you for letting me have this experience and I will remember it always. Tom
  • From spending time visiting two care homes, I’ve played many rounds of quizzes with those in Fountain Court, like Lyn and John. Furthermore, I also learnt how to play new board games such as Sequence by playing with Leslie. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I genuinely enjoyed meeting those in both care homes. Horace
