On Friday, the Abingdon School Chapel Choir were invited to sing evensong at Westminster Abbey, the location of numerous national events and services. Following a wonderful audio tour of the Abbey where pupils were able to learn about the incredible history of the building, the choristers were able to sing in St Margaret’s Church before rehearsing for evensong in the Abbey with the organist. The choir sang with real clarity of diction alongside a nicely blended sound. Stanford’s magnificent setting of the Evening Service in C resounded through the Abbey whilst S.S. Wesley’s ‘Blessed be the God and Father’ gave a wonderful opportunity for different sections of the choir to take centre stage. Special mention must go to Teodor who sang the treble solo with poise and tremendous musicianship. A wonderful accolade for the choir to sing at such a venue and we hope to return in the future.
