Abingdon School Rugby was proud to field teams at U13, U14, U16 and U18 level at the Rosslyn Park National Schools Rugby Sevens Tournament last week, delivering a week of high-quality competition, strong engagement and meaningful development across the programme.

Across all age groups, the tournament provided an excellent environment for players to test themselves against strong opposition. Performances were characterised by commitment, resilience and a clear intent to play with ambition. Just as importantly, the week offered a valuable experience for pupils, supported by excellent parental presence and a positive, inclusive atmosphere throughout.

The 1st VII competed in the U18 Cup competition, securing two wins from four group matches. Their only defeats came against:

  • Cardinal Newman College – an established ACE programme, who progressed to win the Plate competition
  • Wellington College – eventual Cup winners

These were highly competitive fixtures, and the margins reflect the standard of opposition faced. The performances reinforced the strength and consistency of this group, who have delivered an outstanding season.

For the Upper Sixth cohort, this tournament marked a fitting conclusion to their school 7s careers. Alongside a record XV-a-side win percentage this season, the 7s programme has included two runner-up finishes and a number of excellent results.

More broadly, the week at Rosslyn Park reflected a programme that continues to prioritise:

  • Enjoyment and engagement
  • Player development
  • Positive, competitive experiences

The school is grateful to all players, staff and parents for their contribution to a successful and enjoyable week of rugby.
