Ancient History is taught as part of the Classics course up to Third Year and as a standalone subject for GCSE and A Level. Developing the ability to evaluate ancient sources (all studied in English), classes consider the agendas of those who wrote them and how that affects their reliability for what they tell us. Whilst considering in detail world-changing historical moments that are compelling in their own right, the courses also strongly encourage reflection on how study of the ancient world offers insight and comment on contemporary events.

We run an extensive range of trips beyond the classroom, as we feel that live performances of ancient drama and surviving archaeological remains offer unique opportunities to access the ancient world.
