Latin is compulsory in the First and Second Years and is thereafter an optional subject. All sets study some real Latin literature in advance of the GCSE set-texts and at A Level they study the literature in greater depth and breadth.  As at GCSE it is fundamental to our philosophy that we read widely beyond the confines of the syllabuses. In addition, the pupils have to learn to translate Latin literature that they have not studied before. This develops skills in problem-solving as pupils have to learn to unravel the meaning of sentences of complex grammar and word order.
