The termly cathedral visit for the Chapel Choir saw the choir sing evensong at Coventry Cathedral on Monday. In advance of the rehearsal, the pupils were able to discover the unique heritage and history of this cathedral, hugely shaped and impacted by the effect of WW2 on the city. It was particularly moving to sing in this cathedral of peace and reconciliation with the service opening with Gibbons’ ‘Almighty and everlasting God’. Following responses by Clucas and a psalm, the choir sang Stanford’s setting of the Evening Service in Bb. Singing with clarity and a lovely sense of melodic line, the anthem was Wood’s ‘O thou the central orb’. The choir were in fine voice and now look forward to their concert at Dorchester Abbey on Sunday as we commemorate those lost in conflict.
