The rugby season at Abingdon School began in style last Saturday, with every pitch in use and a full programme of fixtures and training. Reed’s School visited for matches at U15A, U16A, 2nd XV, and 1st XV, while all other year groups took part in morning training sessions.

The campus was alive with energy as hundreds of pupils, parents, staff, and supporters gathered to celebrate the start of the season. The 1st XV produced an impressive performance on Waste Court, combining creativity with resilience to record a 54–10 victory. Every squad member played their part in a confident opening display.

In total, over 250 pupils represented Abingdon, with families lining the touchlines to show their support. The day reflected the strong sense of community that underpins rugby at the school.

Mr Matthew Gold, Director of Rugby, said:

“It was wonderful to see so many pupils representing Abingdon with passion and pride. We extend a warm welcome to all new pupils and parents. The atmosphere was superb, and the quality of rugby across all age groups was really encouraging. We wish Reed’s School the very best for the season ahead.”

Next weekend, the squads travel to Eton College for what promises to be another exciting challenge.

Abingdon Rugby 2025 is underway – with passion, courage, and community at its heart.
