Staff at Abingdon welcomed acclaimed author and English teacher, Mark Roberts, to their Summer term INSET on Tuesday 22 April. Mark provided valuable insight on how best teachers can address a student’s motivation to succeed, including how this might differ between genders. Staff were given some top tips and practical advice and then asked to discuss in groups what changes they could implement to ensure that young people feel confident in the classroom. Helen Keevil, Deputy Head (Pastoral) comments: “It was fantastic to welcome Mark as our guest speaker – his clear and practical advice has served me well, both within my capacity as a teacher and in bringing up my own children. Sharing insights into different teaching practices is something we regularly discuss as a staff body but Mark’s presentation helped to reignite and focus our minds on what further changes we can make to ensure each and everyone of our students is thriving.”
