Abingdon hosted Dr Challoner’s in the Regional Quarter Final of the Inspire Sport U16 National Cricket competition. Abingdon batted first and after a cautious start, Alastair Gray (77 not out) and Jamie Firth (64) produced an impressive array of hitting to take the side to an imposing total of 160 for 3 from their 25 overs.

Abingdon got off to a good start with the ball, as Marc Sheriff removed one of the Dr Challoner’s openers early on and when Tom Whetter took 2 wickets in 2 balls shortly afterwards, Abingdon was definitely on top. The spinners kept things tight in the middle overs and with the required run rate rising rapidly, a neat leg side stumping from Sam Dominic off Alex McPherson and a wicket for Arthur Sheppard kept the opposition in check.

Despite some lusty blows from the Dr Challoner’s number 3 late on, Abingdon ran out comfortable winners by 40 runs as they finished on 120 for 6. Abingdon will travel to the winners of the New Hall against Tonbridge game for a place in the South East Region Final.
