On Tuesday, Abingdon travelled the short distance to Radley for a swimming gala. With most of Abingdon’s top swimmers being on study leave it was an opportunity for some of the younger swimmers and non-club swimmers to step up. A local derby against Radley is always a fixture of heightened importance and the Abingdon team really stepped up, winning almost every race and dominating the entire event. Some exceptional performances from Kaan and James from Second Year helped score points against much older opposition. The ever mercurial Jose from Fourth Year continued to dominate the 50 butterfly and freestyle events. Justin provided some blazing fast relay legs and outstanding individual performances to help seal the win. Luca from Third Year was outstanding in his 100 IM and 50 breaststroke races and was barely rattled swimming against Radley’s sixth form.
The team was made up of Kaan, James, Charlie, Luca, Justin, Jose, Hayden, Xavi and Timis. Luca will be competing in British Nationals at Ponds Forge in Sheffield this summer in multiple events, racing against the best of the best in Britain in his age group. We wish him the best of luck.
