Abingdon took on our fiercest rivals Radley. This fixture is often the highlight of our calendar, and this was a great example; keenly contested but played in a great spirit.
We started with the B team match, with several players making their debut. Tom Kent and Sam Dominic lost out in close matches, before Marc Sheriff and Miguel Ferreira delivered emphatic wins. Jai Biswas Gladwin was unlucky to lose in the hard-fought deciding game, but played very well indeed.
Then came the A team match. Alex Smith took on a much older opponent at 1, and was beaten despite playing some fine squash. Max Struthers, playing at 2, might have won on another day, but was edged out. Joe Betts at 4 and Max Sheppard at 5 then stepped up to score convincing victories. The match was decided by Felix Loeffen at 3, playing a much older opponent. This was the only match of the day that went to five games, but it was Felix who focused better to take the match and win the fixture for us.
This was a really impressive victory for our young team, and we look forward to more success against Radley in the coming years.
