Over the past two weeks, audiences have been treated to two outstanding concerts showcasing the musical talent of Abingdon pupils: Solo Platform No. 5 and the Musicians’ Concert held at St Michael’s Church. Both evenings highlighted not only the remarkable talent we have here at the school, but also the confidence, maturity, and enjoyment they brought to the stage.

Solo Platform No. 5 provided an opportunity for pupils to perform individually, displaying a wide range of repertoire. The standard throughout the evening was exceptionally high, with each musician showing great control and musical understanding, that reflected both hard work and real passion.

The Musicians’ Concert at St Michael’s Church continued this theme of musical playing, with pupils performing on a variety of instruments to a very high standard. The lovely acoustics of the church added to the atmosphere of the evening, and parents and teachers in attendance were clearly impressed by the quality and professionalism displayed by all involved.

What stood out most across both concerts was not only the musicianship and excellent technique on display, but also how comfortable and assured the pupils appeared on stage. Performing in front of an audience can be daunting, and nerves are always part of the experience, yet the performers carried themselves with confidence and composure beyond their years. Their ability to communicate musically while remaining poised under pressure was particularly impressive.

These concerts were a wonderful celebration of the talent, commitment, and enthusiasm within the school’s music community, and everyone involved should be extremely proud of what they achieved.
