On Saturday, Abingdon School Rugby Club played Radley College in 14 fixtures taking place across both school campuses. The weather was sunny and the grounds looked amazing. All was set for a cracking derby day.

Our U14s played four matches against Radley at Cox's Field. The D XV put up a sterling effort losing out to a much stronger team who have had an excellent season. The C XV had very close encounters losing by just 2 points, the B XV lost 19-10 but the highlight was their rolling maul from training in the week. And the A XV 19-12. This was arguably going to be the match of the day with both teams undefeated until this point in the season. An awesome match that lived up to its hype.

Our U15s played away at Radley. The C XV lost 28-29, the B XV lost 15-21, and the A XV lost 19-25. Three incredible matches once again showing how closely contested the rugby between Radley and Abingdon is. Unfortunately the teams came out on the wrong side of the score line, but not without serious effort, commitment and team work.

Our U16s played on the main Abingdon School site. Our C XV lost 34-12, the B XV had a superb win 7-5, and the A XV won 12-3 on Waste Court. A terrific effort from the age group and brilliant results from the A and B teams.

Our seniors were away at Radley. The 4th XV played much better this week but went down 43-0. The 3rd XV lost a close match 10-19, but the 2nd XV won a cracking match 8-5.

The 1st XV match was a school boy classic. At times end to end and other times tight and physical. Abingdon went up 7-0 with a length of the field breakaway converted try. Radley came back strongly scoring two unconverted tries. Second half was tight but Abingdon dominated most of the territory and possession but could not score against a committed Radley defence. Final score 10-7 to Radley. You could not ask anymore from the Abingdon team. 100% desire and effort. The match could have gone either way. Disappointing to have lost but a terrific performance from the team.

This week there are matches in the County Cup with our U14 B and 2nd XV teams taking part. Our 1st XV play St Peter's School, Gloucester in the NatWest Cup Plate competition. On Saturday the School play RGS Guildford in block. The 1st XV play at home 1430 KO.
