The highly anticipated first block fixture of the rugby season took place against Solihull School on Saturday, marking the start of what promises to be an exciting and competitive season. Across the school, 11 fixtures were played, with plenty of trial and training matches occurring among the different age groups. The atmosphere was electric, with a real sense of excitement and optimism in the air.
The weather was perfect, providing ideal playing conditions, while the pitches looked immaculate, complementing the beautiful backdrop of the school site. The scene was set for a fantastic day of rugby.
For many, it was a special day. Several U12 and U14 players proudly donned their school jerseys for the first time, representing Abingdon School in their first-ever sports matches. Their enthusiasm and determination were evident, and their performances marked a great start to their rugby journeys.
The Touchliners, our dedicated rugby parent committee, were on hand to welcome new parents to the fold. Their presence added to the community spirit, with bacon rolls and friendly chats helping create a welcoming environment. They also took the opportunity to advertise their upcoming events, which are set to bring parents, pupils, and staff together throughout the term.
On the field, the matches were played in great spirit, with teams demonstrating the hard work they’ve put into their training over the past few weeks. While the results can be accessed via this link, the real takeaway from the weekend was the progress made by all teams and the attitude shown by our pupils. The fixture allowed players to gain valuable match experience, and it is clear that this weekend has set the tone for a promising and enjoyable season ahead.
With the first block now complete, we look forward to what the coming weeks will bring as our teams continue to develop and grow.
