The athletics team travelled the short distance to Radley College to compete in their annual Relays event.
The junior team stole the show with some impressive performances. In the medley relay (200m, 200m, 400m, 800m) both Abingdon teams finished on the podium, with team 1 only two tenths shy of the all time record. Special mention must go to Thom Denning who ran an impressive 400m time of 56s.
Aiken, Channon, Denning, James – 3:57.6 – 1st
Rajasundaram, Vinton, Mensah, d'Arcy – 4:13.3 – 3rd
The 4x100m team also finished in 3rd place in a time of 48.7s.
The Intermediate team finished just outside the medal spots in the medley relay in a time of 4min 05s, which was a pleasing result considering it was their first meet of the season.
Heading into the meet the seniors were feeling the pressure as the holders of both the 4x100m and medley relay trophies. The boys must be commended for their performance considering many of them were stepping up a distance and racing these disciplines for the first time. The 4x100m team made up of James Ashby, Archie Turnbull, James Coode and Oscar Frost ran well, clocking a time of 45.6s to finish in 5th place behind some strong schools such as Eton and Harrow.
The Medley team made up of Archie Turnbull, Oscar Frost, James Coode and David Bunn managed to finish on the podium in a time of 3min 50s. They were followed closely by a second Abingdon team consisting of James Ashby, Jacob Henney, Matthew Kunov and Alexander Pennington who finished in a time of 4min 02s.
Our attention now turns to the first full track and field meet of the season at Stowe on Wednesday 15 May.
