ESAA Track and Field Cup

The Senior Athletics team had a brilliant morning at Tilsley Park competing in the first round of the English Schools Track and Field cup. Athletes aimed to secure as many points as possible whilst competing in their chosen disciplines ranging from sprinting to middle distance running, shot put to high jump, and long jump to javelin and discus.

The team finished in first place with a total of 288 points. Stand out performances came from James (Year 7) in the 800m, Laurie (Year 8) in the 100m, and Toju (Year 8) in the 200m.

Unfortunately, despite finishing in 1st place the team did not secure quite enough points to advance to the regional round of the competition.

Radley Invitational Multi Event

The Athletics squad enjoyed an afternoon competing at Radley College in their annual multi event. Athletes competed in a number of disciplines from sprinting and middle distance running to jumping and throwing with the competition culminating with a 4x100m relay.

It was brilliant to see the Year 5 pupils throwing themselves into each discipline, with some experiencing the thrill of a big competition for the first time.

In the Year 6 competition there were a number of fantastic performances with Leone winning his 100m heat and Arthur (2nd) and Max (9th) placing highly in the 800m, which saw close to 50 athletes tow the start line!

The Year 7 & 8s were up against some stiff opposition, but competed valiantly and came away with 3rd in their 4x100m relay heat in a time of 56.28 just behind Papplewick and The Dragon. Other notable performances were recorded by Jamie and Laurie in the long jump.

We wish all athletes who have secured a qualifying time/distance good luck at the upcoming Mercia Championships.
