On Friday, Year 8 pupils enjoyed a great day out at the Jurassic Coast, Dorset, with clear skies and views all the way across to Weymouth and the Isle of Portland.
The pupils applied their Geography knowledge of coastal processes to explain the formation of the huge limestone rock arch at Durdle Door, watched longshore drift in action, and carried out an investigation into how the sediment size changes on the pebble beach.
In the afternoon we walked into Lulworth Cove to measure the beach gradient and took a closer look at the Jurassic and Cretaceous rocks that make up this section of the coast. After drawing field sketches of the unique geological formations at Stair Hole and the Lulworth Crumple, everyone was rewarded for their hard work with fish and chips.
