Abingdon Prep welcomes boys from the age of 4 (Reception) to 13 (Year 8). Our main entry points are Reception and Year 3 (aged 7+), although places in other year groups do occasionally become available, so if you are thinking of moving your son at a different time or part way through an academic year, it is always worth checking with our Admissions Manager.

Registration

Once you’ve come to see us and decided that you’d like your son to attend Abingdon Prep School, you will need to apply for a place by registering your child by filling out this form and paying our non-refundable registration fee of £100. If you have previously registered a child and have already created a MyAbingdon Account, please click here.

Once you have registered, our Admissions Manager will be in touch to confirm receipt of your registration, discuss next steps and book your son in for an assessment. If you are experiencing difficulties with the MyAbingdon system, please email [email protected].

Assessment process

We understand that being assessed can create some anxiety but please be assured that we will do everything to make the process an enjoyable one. Our assessment mornings are a chance for us to get to know your child and for your child to get to know us, as well as to meet some other children. Designed to be informal, friendly and to get the very best out of our young candidates, they are adapted to the age of the child applying for a place and for their year of entry. They can take place either in a group or on an individual basis – this will depend on the calendar and the availability of places.

Early years assessment (Reception, Years 1 and 2): A play morning which gives our staff a chance to get to know your child. We may ask for further assessment material from the home setting.

Prep assessment (Year 3): This looks at your child’s reading and writing. They will also take part in a maths activity. For entry to Year 4 and above, children are also asked to complete CAT (computer-based cognitive abilities tests) in English, Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Offer of a place

Places will be offered following the outcome of the assessment, together with satisfactory references from the child’s current school or nursery (this may be his two year check). If you have any questions at all, then please do get in touch with our Admissions team.
