In May 2024, Abingdon Prep School announced its decision to move to co-education. We will be welcoming girls to our Pre-Prep (Reception to Year 2) from September 2024, and into Years 3 to 6 in our Prep from 2025. View a video message from Mike Windsor, Head of Abingdon Foundation, here.
The majority of pupils join Abingdon Prep in September, although it is not uncommon for them to join in either January or April. Please contact the Admissions Manager to discuss.
Visit Us
The best way to come and discover more about our School is to come and see us. We look forward to welcoming you to our next Open Morning or for a private tour.
Registration
Following your initial enquiry or visit we encourage you to register if you wish to apply for a place for your child. Once you have registered, our Admissions Manager will be in touch to discuss next steps.
Pre-Prep admissions process
Abingdon Prep is admitting girls into Pre-Prep from 2024.
Children joining in Reception will be invited to attend an informal taster session. Following this, places are offered on a first come, first serve basis with a waiting list based on date of registration. Early registration is therefore advisable.
Girls and boys joining in Years 1 and 2 will be invited for an informal assessment during the course of a normal school day. This gives the children the opportunity to experience what life at Abingdon Prep is all about and enables our staff to get to know your child.
For international families, we ask parents to support their application with video footage of their child in their home setting.
Prep admissions process
Abingdon Prep is admitting girls into Years 3 to 6 from September 2025.
Entry to Year 3 and above follows an age appropriate process. In all cases we invite prospective pupils to an assessment morning. These are a chance for us to get to know your child and for your child to get to know us, as well as to meet some other children. Designed to be informal, friendly and to get the very best out of our young candidates, they are adapted to the age of the child applying for a place and for their year of entry. They can take place either in a group or on an individual basis – this will depend on the calendar and the availability of places. We will also request a reference from your child’s current school.
Assessment for Year 3: This looks at your child’s reading and writing. They will also take part in a maths activity.
Assessment for Years 4 – 6: Children are asked to complete CAT (computer-based cognitive abilities tests) in English, Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Assessment for Year 7: This assessment follows the same process for entry to Abingdon School. Please visit the senior school website here for more information.
For international families, please get in touch with the Admissions Manager to discuss the process for your child.
Offer of a place
Places will be offered following the outcome of the assessment, together with a satisfactory reference from your child’s current school. If you have any questions at all, then please do get in touch with our Admissions Manager.
