Congratulations to Sam Wormald in the Second Year for winning a prize in a competition organised by Abingdon Cuts Plastic with Surfers Against Sewage to help children and their families reduce their Christmas plastic consumption. The task was to create a homemade Christmas decoration, with the theme “Plastic-Free Christmas”. Sam’s prize was presented to him by the Mayor of Abingdon, Charlie Birks.
Speaking about his decoration Sam said:
“My angel is loosely based on Antony Gormley’s sculpture ‘The Angel of the North’. I added an extra set of wings to make it more Christmassy! It is a 3D free-standing decoration made from card and then collaged on the outside and inside from recycled papers I made last term for an art club. The paper used is coloured sugar paper and is painted with washable ink and then stuck onto the card with a non-solvent washable glue.”
