It’s been a busy and exciting term in arts partnerships so far this year. The 2023 season of Oxfordshire Academy of Broadcast Journalism workshops was launched on 23 January, led by professional broadcasters, Olly Hogben and Blythe Lawrence. Their opening taster session at Larkmead School attracted over 50 students from across the OX14 partnership who were treated to an account of some of the challenges and thrills of a career in broadcast journalism. Olly and Blythe have also launched a number of virtual online sessions – the first entitled ‘Writing for Broadcast’ invited students to consider the difference between writing a news article and writing a blog.
On 24 January, new Film Academy students set the cameras rolling on the first of two short films they plan to make this term. The first, provisionally titled ‘Dead Time’ is a thriller set in the Larkmead school library which we hope will be screened at a special celebration of Abingdon filmmaking, due to be held at the British Film Institute later this year. We can’t wait to see the results.
