Last Sunday saw the final of the inaugural OX14 playwriting competition at Radley, in which Hao Zhen beat off strong competition from the four other finalists to win the contest with his clever and witty play “Cosmos of Ducks”.

The competition attracted a total of 14 entries from across the OX14 schools. These included an impressive effort from Arran Bell, whose “Cursed Blood” also reached the final and went down very well with the audience. Other Abingdon entrants were Freddie Farrell and Josh Matthews whose plays were both long-listed, with Josh’s “A Change in Perspective” also making the shortlist. Hats off, too, to Abingdon actors Oli Clark and Alex Lees (and their mums!) who gave up their Sunday evenings (on Mother’s Day) to act in three of the scripts.

All in all, it was a great event that we hope will help foster the next generation of Abingdon playwrights.
