In May, 90 students attended the National Schools’ Regatta at the 2012 Olympic course at Eton Dorney. This even brings together all the top club and school crews from the UK and Ireland. On a bright and breezy day, Abingdon raced well and to their potential, with over half making it through to and contesting the top A finals in their events, displaying great strength in depth for the Boat Club crews as a whole in the main national event of the year.

Highlights of the results included in the J14’s first national regatta, a bronze medal for the J14 Bs in their event. A 5th place for the J14As and an 11th placed overall for the C crew in the B event.

The J15s performed very well with both the A and B crew making the A final finishing 6th and 5th respectively overall. The J15Bs managed this after a dramatic semi final in which they showed great resilience as they recovered twice from equipment issues mid race to surge back through the field to qualify.
