Abingdon’s senior squash team began their campaign in the National Schools Championship this week. The team, Alex Smith, Felix Loeffen, Max Struthers, Will Simpson, Luke Remmington and Wilf Barter, took on Aylesbury Grammar, one of the top teams in the country, and Haberdashers’, also a strong side. We beat Haberdashers’ by a very large margin, 146 points to 75, playing superb clinical squash. We then took on Aylesbury, and the matches were very closely fought indeed. Despite our first string struggling with illness, we only lost narrowly by 135 points to 118. The overall result was that we qualified for the next stage of the Championship, and will go forward with bright prospects for the knock-out stages next term.
