Last Saturday, the Boat Club raced at Marlow Regatta, one of the final competitive races of the season for the 3rd years (J14s). In the morning time trial, the A crew came fourth, with 12 seconds separating them and the top crew. They had a few hours to recuperate before going out again to race side by side against some of the fastest crews in the country in the final.
Starting in the outside lane and with all hopes of a final trophy all but lost, the crew decided to write off the race favourites and stormed to victory in the ‘Giles Every Challenge Cup’. They charged off the start and continued to extend their lead, holding off a late surge to the finish line by their closest rivals.
This marks the end to an excellent season, where the crew won a bronze medal at the scullery (the winter national event), 4th at National Schools (just outside the podium) and then victory against the National School champions and all other podium finishers only three weeks later at Marlow.
This year group is one to watch as they move to sweep rowing next year!
