Congratulations to fourth year pupil Matthew Rolfe who represented Abingdon at the final round of the 2019/2020 British Council Mandarin Speaking Competition in London.
This year 88 schools and hundreds of pupils across the country took part in the regional heats and only around 10 pupils were selected to compete in each individual category in the final. Matthew was required to make a presentation in front of the judges, other contestants and their teachers, followed by questions on his speech as well as being given translations to complete on the spot.
As Shannon West, Principal Consultant Schools – Modern Foreign Languages at the British Council, said: “Reaching the final round of this competition is a huge achievement and testament to the effort that pupils have put in!”
Very well done to Matthew!
