Last Friday, 16 pupils performed in the last of our music competition finals. With a range of musical disciplines ranging from Horn to Double Bass, singing to Oboe, there was a lovely breadth of music for the assembled audience. We were delighted to welcome Emma Penfold, Director of Music from Abingdon Prep School to adjudicate the competition and her emphasis on understanding the nuance of the music coupled with technical feedback for each performer resulted in an erudite adjudication. Joint Third place was awarded to Quinn (1st Year) and Tom (1st Year) for their respective performances on Violin and Singing, whilst 2nd Place was awarded to Laurence (2nd Year) for a lovely rendition of Bozza’s ‘En Irelande’ on the French Horn. This year’s winner was Ethan (4th Year) who performed on the Double Bass with style and verve, playing a polished rendition of La Cumparsita. This was an evening which showed the breadth of instrumental and vocal disciplines in the school and we look forward to seeing the pupils’ ongoing progress in the years to come.
