Last Friday saw the annual Inter House Athletics taking place at Tilsley Park. On a glorious afternoon, it was great to see so many students taking part in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere where we could also savour some fine individual performances.
The competitions were fiercely contested at all three age groups with only a handful of points separating the top few Houses in both the 3rd year and Lower Sixth competitions.
The final standing were:
- 3rd year: 1st – Donnelly’s (181), 2nd – O’Doherty’s (179), 3rd – James’ (178)
- 4th year: 1st – Border’s (181), 2nd – Franklin’s (168), 3rd – James’ (164)
- L6th: 1st – Border’s (164), 2nd – Pygott’s (163), 3rd – O’Doherty’s (161)
The afternoon was rounded off by a golden mile relay where 8 individuals each run 200m as a relay in an attempt to beat Sir Roger Bannister’s famous 4 minute barrier. Six of the teams managed this successfully, with James’ house winning the race in an impressive time of 3 minutes 38 seconds.
Once all the points from the three year groups were added together, along with the golden mile relay, the overall results were:
- 1st – O’Doherty’s (512)
- 2nd – James’ (501)
- 3rd – Donnelly’s (492)
