Last week, 12 Abingdon climbers travelled to the White Spider climbing centre in South West London to compete in the Independent Schools Climbing Competition alongside 20 other schools from across the country.
Competitors were given five and a half hours to attempt 12 boulder problems, 10 top-rope routes and eight lead routes of varying difficulties; pupils earned more points for completing harder routes or using fewer attempts to top them.
There was a stand out performance from Daniel in 4th Year, who was awarded best junior boulderer, best junior top roper, best junior leader and best junior climber, as well as scoring the highest number of points of any of the 206 competitors! Jay (Upper 6th) performed strongly on the mats and was awarded the best senior boulderer. Our junior team, consisting of Daniel, Charlie and George performed well across the board to bring home first place junior team. They joined with the senior team, consisting of Jay, Alex and Ben to place Abingdon A in third place overall, behind Eton and Tonbridge As respectively.
All those involved were an asset to the school and have certainly put Abingdon climbing on the map!
