During the Easter holidays, Gold DofE Sailors completed their expedition crossing the English Channel to Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
This was the first time in seven years that Abingdon students have done this route. The journey across involved a 17 hour sail through the night with calm seas making the conditions ideal.
Upon arrival in St Peter Port the students started the exploration phase of the expedition, learning about the Island's varied history including the occupation during WW2 on museum and cycle tours. In the afternoon they went coasteering, exploring the natural side of the Island.
The return journey brought much windier conditions and rougher seas with the sails needing to be heavily reefed for the 16 hour journey back to South Coast.
