At the end of half term seven Abingdon rowers and two coxes made the trip to Boston, Lincolnshire for the second round of this season’s water trials in the hope of staking a claim for a spot ahead of the summer international events. For seven of the group this was their first time attending this trial and it was a great experience mixing it with the best in the country. Rob competed in the boys’ singles finishing 49th. Ben and Ollie raced in the boys’ pairs finishing 43rd with Ben and Michael coming home 34th, Michael would climb up to 12th place in his third race in the pairs later in the weekend. The standout result for the club saw Eddie and Calum return after competing last year to finish in 4th place. Eddie and Calum then split into other pairs partnering some of the top athletes from other schools in a second race and finishing 3rd and 6th respectively. This is an outstanding result and if they can maintain this form, puts them firmly in the mix for international selection later in the season. Well done to all the rowers and coxes for getting to this point and we look forward to seeing how the rest of the season goes.
