Week 6 of the football season started with the annual U12 7-a-side fixtures vs Our Lady’s Abingdon, in which having taken an early lead the U12 Bs held on despite late pressure to secure another victory. Wednesday saw the U15s face The Oxford Academy in the second round of the County Cup. The Abingdon boys played well against tough opposition, however mistakes at crucial times, having got themselves back in the game, resulted in an unfortunate defeat.
The weekend fixtures were disrupted by the weather, however the afternoon games against Wellingborough all went ahead as planned. Goals from James Daly and Adam Coombs were not enough to earn a win on this occasion for the U15 As, 2-4 the final score. The result was the same in the U15 B game, however this time in favour of the Abingdon side who continued their excellent run of form. Aidan Cloney with a hat-trick and Eliot Hyman the other goal.
Into the seniors and a rejigged mixed 4th and 5th XI side secured a 5-0 win, Freddie Fleck, Desmond So, James Chaplin and Dan Bacon (x2) with the goals. Looking to make up for last year's missed opportunities the 3rd XI got the second half of the season off to a winning start, 2-1 the final score. After a week off for half term, and no training in the lead up due to Upper Sixth exams the 2nd XI struggled against a good Wellingborough side, and whilst having chances to get more out of the game, unfortunately on this occasion lost 1-2. The same could be said for the 1st XI performance. Despite going 1-0 up through a bustling Oise Emafo goal, an energised Wellingborough second half performance saw them score twice resulting in a 1-2 defeat for the Abingdon 1st XI side.
Despite the anticipated cold weather, it is hoped that arrangements can be made for football to be played this week with fixtures against MCS for the U16s and Cokethorpe School for the rest of the Middle and Senior school scheduled.
Many thanks for your continued support on a very cold touchline!
