Week 4 of the football season got underway with lower school small-sided fixtures against Our Lady’s Abingdon at Tilsley Park, giving all players from across the ability spectrum the opportunity to play. The weekend brought a combination of fixtures against Magdalen College School, Shiplake and Bromsgrove.

The U14 As got their season up and running as a fine strike from Lawrence Dew gave them a 1-0 win against Shiplake, whilst a hat-trick from Jack Deeker helped the U14 Bs to a 5-0 win. Also at Cox’s Field the U15 As built on their outstanding win over Hampton, as goals from Felix Kind helped them to a 3-0 win. A hat-trick from James Furness and a goal from Harry Nye helped the U15 Bs to a 4-1 victory.

The 4th XI had six different scorers as they won 6-0 against Shiplake 4th XI, whilst a Max Weaver double, and goals from Sam Agg and Mathew Viner helped the 3rd XI to victory. Aidan Cloney was on target netting three in the 2nd XI’s 4-1 win. Josh Ponting also on the scoresheet.

The 1st XI bounced back well and built on last weekend’s performance with clinical movement and better ball retention helping them to a 6-0 win over Shiplake 1st XI. Hector Chambers, Huw Williams, Freddie Merrett and Theo Mara all getting on the scoresheet.

The U16 As and Cs took on the challenge of Magdalen College School, and, having found themselves 3-0 down the A team bounced back well to secure a 3-3 draw. The U16 Cs beat MCS U16 Bs 6-3.

The final game of the day saw the U16 Bs make the journey to Bromsgrove in a new fixture for the school. In what were very difficult playing conditions the Abingdon side battled well. Having found themselves 1-2 down at the break the game then opened up, and on this occasion they narrowly came second best.

The Football Club now looks forward to lower school fixtures mid-week with Cokethorpe, before next weekend sees fixtures with Aylesbury Grammar and Wellingborough School.

Many thanks for your continued support on the touchline.
