Despite the persistent rain and localised flooding the Football Club managed to host 11 games at home on the second weekend of the football season. On their first outing for the school, the U12s battled well against tough Caldicott opposition; the As suffered a defeat whilst the Bs drew 2-2. Over at Cox’s Field an outstanding lob from Ibrahim Atitebi and a goal from Alex Darbishire helped the U13 As to a 2-1 win, whilst Jamie Halliwell’s goal secured the Bs a 1-0 victory.
The U14 As fought competitively against a very strong Berkhamsted side, whilst the U14 Bs lost narrowly 2-3. The U14 Cs continued their good run of form, 7-1 the final score, whilst the U14 Ds won a very even contest 4-3. Unfortunately due to the weather a number of games at Berkhamsted had to be cancelled, however the U15 A game still went ahead and despite taking a 1-0 lead they slipped to a 1-3 defeat.
On Waste Court the U16 As put in a much improved performance this week, moving the ball freely and connecting much better in their 2-0 win. Goals from Freddie Coode and Max Ellison weren’t enough as the U16 Bs lost 2-3 whilst the U16 Cs lost 0-4.
Back at Berkhamsted the 2nd XI struggled against a physical opposition succumbing to a 0-3 defeat whilst, after a convincing start in which the Abingdon 1st XI created some good openings, lapses in dangerous areas of the pitch cost them as they slipped to a 0-2 defeat.
With the 5th XI fixture vs Berkhamsted cancelled, the boys enjoyed an alternative shorter trip down the road to Radley. A 3-0 win the final score with Charlie Hobbs netting all three!
A tough weekend of fixtures against strong opposition, however some very promising and pleasing results to build from. We now look forward to hosting Hampton School for 16 fixtures next Saturday.
Many thanks for all your continued support on the touchline.
