Week 10 of the football season was an exceptionally busy one, and started with lower school games vs Abingdon Prep. Goals from Ethan Barksfield, Jack Veal and Oliver Vivian helped the U12 As to a 3-2 win whilst the talented U12 Bs won 14-1. The U13 As lost 2-3, whilst the U13 Bs secured a 3-1 win. At the same time the U14 Bs battled out a 1-1 draw with Our Lady’s Abingdon U14 A.
Over at Cox’s Field the 5th XI was entertaining Reading Blue Coat, 0-2 the final score, whilst the 6th XI lost 0-3. Over at Shiplake College the U15 As came off second best 1-2 the final score, whilst the U15 Cs beat Shiplake U15 Bs 6-3. The U14 As scored 12 in their victory, whilst the Cs scored 12 against Shiplake U14 Bs.
Over at Tilsley Park a late Fraser Scott strike helped the 4th XI to a 1-0 win over Shiplake, whilst the 3rd XI drew 1-1. A late Adewale Adebutu goal gave the 2nd XI a 3-2 win.
On Waste Court Abingdon had the privilege of welcoming OA and current Premier League football referee Graham Scott to officiate the 1st XI fixture. Goals from Josh Ponting and Huw Williams helped the 1st XI into a 2-0 lead, however a slow second half performance saw the game finish honours even at 2-2.
Saturday saw a mix of fixtures. The 3rd XI came off second best against Cheltenham 1st XI whilst the 5th XI lost to Cheltenham 2nd XI 0-4. The 16 Cs came from 0-3 down to almost produce a great comeback against the Cheltenham 3rd XI, 2-3 the final score, whilst the 6th XI lost 1-3 to Cheltenham 4th XI.
Saturday also saw fixtures vs Bedford Modern School. The U12 Bs again continued their excellent form scoring goals a plenty in their win, as did the 12 As. Ibrahim Atitebi scoring 5 of them. The 13 As had to settle for a 1-1 draw with an excellent penalty save from William Howat, whilst the U13 Bs drew 2-2.
The 14 As finished the season with a 1-0 win, whilst the U14 Bs came from behind twice to secure a 2-2 draw. This side deserve a special mention having now gone the full season unbeaten. On Waste Court the U15 As won 2-1, Will Wallis and Sam Webber with the goals, whilst goals from Freddie Coode and Angus Riach helped the 15 Bs to a 2-1 win. The 15 Cs also finish the season unbeaten having won 2-0.
In the U16s the A team secured a 3-1 win, whilst Aidan Cloney scored 5 in the 16 B’s 9-0 win. The 4th XI lost narrowly 0-2 to Bedford Modern 2nd XI, whilst the 2nd XI finished with a convincing 3-0 win.
After a slow start, a good finish from Josh Ponting helped Abingdoin 1st XI take control of the game vs Bedford Modern 1st XI, and Hector Chambers’ finish from close range, and fullback Will Diver’s 25 yard screamer helped the side a convincing 3-0 win. A terrific season in which the 1st XI have won 8 and drawn 5 of their 14 games played.
That now brings the football Season 2019 to a close, with 167 games played and a lot of memories made.
