Week 1 of the football season saw the Football Club tackle the tough challenge of Berkhamsted School. At Cox’s Field the U14s showed great promise on their first outing for the school, the U14 As losing 2-1 in a game they could certainly have got more from with the U14 Bs also suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat, Rowan Miell-Ingram with the goal. The U14 C game was without doubt the game of the day; 4-6 the final score.
Moving to the main school, and a handful of early goals left too much to do for the U15 Cs as they came off second best, whilst the U15 Bs earned a hard fought 2-2 draw. Having worked tirelessly all game, a late goal resulted in a 0-1 result for the U15 As in a game in which they will feel they deserved more.
With mock-examinations resulting in a week of no training it was always going to be tough for the U16s, however great credit must go to the boys for giving it their all mid-exam period. On this occasion the U16 Bs came off second best, whilst the U16 As showed great promise in the opening fixture at Tilsley Park and having gone 0-2 down the boys showed great character to get back in the game at 1-2, before unfortunately conceding a third goal late on.
Over at Berkhamsted School the 5th XI got off to a flier, however unfortunately couldn’t hold onto their lead whilst the 4th and 3rd XI both suffered narrow defeats. A very new look 2nd XI made a great start to their season and two cleverly worked set pieces led them to a 2-1 win.
Two smart finishes from Oise Emafo saw the 1st XI take an early 2-0 lead against Berkhamsted 1st XI, and despite a late scare and some terrific cover work from debutant Harvey Jupp the Abingdon side looked comfortable on their way to an excellent 2-0 away win.
The Football Club now looks forward to fixtures against Aylesbury Grammar in the Middle School next weekend, whilst the senior sides play St Edward’s and the lower school sides begin their campaign against Caldicott. Next Saturday also sees the inaugural 1st XI fixture against The Corinthian Casuals on Waste Court Field, a great addition to the 1st team fixture card this year.
Thank you for all your support on the touchline.
