The cross country club hosted schools from Oxfordshire in the first round of the English Schools Cup last week. Races were run on a stunningly sunny day at Cox’s Field on a fast, flat course. Our junior team continued to gain experience, with First Year pupil Ben making his debut. Angus and Freddie led the team home with impressive performances at the top of the field. Progression to the regional round was secured with third place.
The Intermediate team dominated. Daragh ran a controlled first part of his race, according to plan, then turned up the pace and inflicted a lot of pain on the rest of the field to win by a big margin. Edward bounced back from his disappointment of last week to secure an impressive third.
The Senior race was a similar story, but with even greater dominance. Pace management was the key in their 5.75km race. Monty waited patiently before easing into a winning position with a mile to go. Hugh ran his best paced effort of the season so far to secure third. The team won by a mile, with all six of them in the top seven. We will get our heads down now for a month of training and look forward to the regional round with confidence.
