Last week Abingdon School hosted an elite rugby sevens coaching course for sports teachers and rugby coaches who are gearing their schools’ sevens teams up for the forthcoming sevens season, which culminates with the Rosslyn Park National Schools’ Sevens in late March.
The coaching course was run by “Next Generation Sevens” and led by world renowned international rugby sevens coach, Mike Friday. Mike has a wealth of experience having previously coached both England and Kenya Sevens teams, and is currently Head Coach of the USA 7s team, as well as Samaurai International 7s lead coach.
A group of Abingdon School pupils who are currently in training for their sevens season were used by Mike Friday to help demonstrate some key drills and games to the observant coaches.
The course provided an ideal opportunity for our school rugby staff to learn from the best in the world. The day was also an invaluable experience for our pupils, giving them a unique insight into elite rugby sevens.
Thank you Next Generation Sevens and Mike Friday for using Abingdon School. And best of luck to all our boys who take part in tournaments later this Lent term.
