Over four days eight Lower Sixth students completed their DofE Gold Canoeing Assessment Expedition. The expedition started at Abingdon’s boathouse with a quick capsize and rescue refresher. This was deemed prudent as one pair did unfortunately capsize on the first day but this didn’t deter their spirits.
The main expedition started at Locksters Pool, Herefordshire and they paddled the River Wye for approximately 110km via Bycross Farm (where they watched the England football match), Lucksall Park, Ross-on-Wye Rowing Club to their end point in Monmouth, Wales. The record breaking team started their final day at 4.25am to ensure they would see a (damp) sunrise and finish the day by 10am!
They all passed with flying colours, well done!
