The 1st VII kicked off their Rugby 7s campaign in style this half term at the Collegiate School 7s, enjoying a fantastic day of rugby in glorious sunshine. As this was the first tournament of the season, the squad showcased impressive skill, fitness, and teamwork throughout the competition. The day began with a hard-fought 19-17 victory over a strong King Edward’s School, Bath, setting the tone for what was to come. The team then found its rhythm, producing an attacking masterclass to defeat Bristol Grammar School 35-24. A dominant 36-5 win over Monkton Combe School secured the top spot in the group. The momentum carried into the semi-final, where the 1st VII delivered a clinical 27-12 victory over Sherborne School, booking their place in the Cup Final against Kingswood School. A tightly contested final saw the 1st VII push Kingswood all the way, but despite a valiant effort, they narrowly fell short in a 12-17 defeat. The squad can take great pride in their performance, demonstrating flair, resilience, and outstanding teamwork throughout the day. Having three live-streamed matches was also fantastic, allowing the Abingdon community to follow the action from afar. With a strong tournament under their belts, the team looks ahead to their next challenge: Middlesex 7s this Wednesday. Well done to all involved!
