7 December 2020

Although somewhat shorter than our usual concert, the 2020 Christmas Concert followed the traditional format but with one or two notable changes, reflecting the Covid-safe conditions that we have adopted throughout the term. Our rehearsals have been in smaller groups to allow for social distancing – and in year group bubbles. And that has provided one of several silver linings – the third and fourth Year Bubble Orchestras have rehearsed separately but were carefully put together for our recordings and it has been great to get to know them as a year group.

A special element in the concert is the final item – an extraordinary partnership with the charity, Brass for Africa, which, thanks to some technical wizardry, sees our Chapel Choir in a joint performance of Away in a Manger with some musicians from Uganda. My thanks go to Mr Treadaway, who is heading up the important new partnerships element of the department’s work.

I would like to thank my colleagues for their ambition and resilience, the pupils for their enthusiasm and flexibility and our wonderful Amey Theatre technical team for helping to keep us safe in rehearsals and for organising all our recordings this term.

I hope you enjoy the concert – we’ve certainly had a lot of fun putting it together.

Happy Christmas!
