Last Thursday saw the long-awaited return of the School Choirs Concert in the Chapel. The people in attendance were treated to three exciting performances from Chapel Choir, Gospel Choir and Abingdon Academicals. The students involved were full of enthusiasm which was palpable to all.
Chapel Choir started with a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by Malcom Pearce and Turn Back O Man by Gustav Holst, both of which featured in a recent evensong at Keble College Chapel, Oxford. Gospel Choir then performed two upbeat numbers which were sung with great joy; Rolling in the Deep by Adele and You Keep me Hangin’ On, but as Dr Preece said, ‘more in the style of Kim Wilde than of the Supremes!’
Abingdon Academicals finished the evening with three close harmony numbers. An African Lullaby, Thula Thula, was followed by an excellent arrangement of Kiss from a Rose, by Seal, which featured a beautiful solo by Aidan Chan. They finished with a first-class solo by Oscar Bennett in I’m a Train by Albert Hammond.
A short and sweet concert left the audience wanting more. Luckily, you will be able to hear Gospel Choir and Abingdon Academicals in the Spring Concert this week!
