The Amey Theatre was the venue for the second book launch of the term, hosted by Abingdon School in Partnership and supported by the local bookshop, Mostly Books. Pupils from Abingdon Prep School, St Michael’s CofE Primary in Steventon and the Abingdon Area Home Educators Group were able to hear all about Cindy Forde’s new book, ‘Bright New World: How to Make a Happy Planet’, from the author herself in an engaging conversation with Jeremy Taylor, Abingdon Arts Partnership Lead.
Cindy Forde supports the Homerton College Changemaker programme at Cambridge as well as being the founder and CEO of Planetari, an environmental education initiative aimed at empowering young people to change the future of the planet. Her book is a brightly illustrated journey to a future where positive actions have been taken to address the environmental problems of today, largely based on young people’s ideas and currently available solutions.
The audience enjoyed participating in a time travelling rocket journey to the future with the Amey Theatre alive with the sounds and vibrations of the rocket ship as it touched down on future Earth. They were full of ideas for how this future looked and the positive steps that humanity had taken to get there. A signed copy of the book was presented to each of the schools and the children went away buzzing with ideas on how they would put these positive ideas into action themselves.
