On Tuesday we welcomed eight students and staff from Larkmead School for the inaugural session of a new Rowing Partnership. As part of our growing partnership programme, ASiP colleague and rowing coach Mike Webb with the help of the partnership team has set up and begun an ‘Introduction to Rowing’ programme to expose more local young people to the sport.
The programme initially involves the use of ergos to focus on technique before moving into the pool for a capsize drill. The students will then experience the rowing tank kindly made available by our colleagues at Radley College, before finally ending up on the river thanks to cooperation from Abingdon Rowing Club and their new captain Peter Martin. We are excited about the launch of this partnership project and are currently exploring setting up a similar programme for rugby to put sport at the very heart of our collaboration with partner schools.
