Four years gaining experience in Abingdon School’s CCF have paid off for 17-year-old Max Martin who has been appointed to the prestigious position of a Lord-Lieutenant’s cadet. Following a tough selection process involving nomination from the Contingent Commander, an interview, inspection and a presentation on the future of the armed forces to a panel of senior officers, Max was appointed to the role for a year and will be commissioned into his position in September 2018.
Max, who would like to make a career in the military and to eventually join The Coldstream Guards said, “It’s an honour to be appointed a Lord-Lieutenant’s cadet for Oxfordshire. I hope to be able to apply everything I’ve learnt from Abingdon’s CCF, and to be a good ambassador for the Contingent and the CCF as a whole.”
The Lord-Lieutenant for Oxfordshire, Mr Tim Stevenson OBE, who represents the Queen, has four cadets from each of the different units within the forces. The cadets are changed annually. Max’s role will be to assist the Lord-Lieutenant as required – often on parade for royal visits – and to act as an ambassador for young people in Oxfordshire.
