A new concert for the Music department calendar, this concert saw a celebration of the wonderful and evocative music of english composer, Gerald Finzi. Mr Popplewell and Mr Stafford have been extolling the virtues of his music ever since they arrived at the school and so, on the 75th anniversary of the composer’s passing, it was wonderful to showcase some of the major repertoire. There was opportunity for performance of the song cycle ‘Let us Garlands Bring’ whilst the Five Bagatelles for Clarinet and Piano was performed by five separate pupils! Finally, the String orchestra performed the challenging ‘Romance’ whilst there was time for Ben to perform the lyrical and wistful ‘Eclogue’, a quasi second movement from an intended Piano concerto.
