The School Choirs’ Concert took on a slightly different guise this year with the Chapel choir performing a number of choral anthems as they prepare for both evensong at Dorchester Abbey and Westminster Abbey but also the forthcoming tour of the Netherlands in July. There was a focus on English music with works by Gibbons, Vaughan Williams, Purcell and Stanford. Edward sang the treble solo in Mendelssohn’s ‘Hear my Prayer’ incredibly sensitively whilst it was enthralling to have some of this music accompanied by full symphony orchestra rather than the usual sounds of the pipe organ. The second half was dedicated to the Abingdon School Choral Society who performed Elgar’s anthem ‘Give unto the Lord’ and Parry’s iconic ‘Blest Pair of Sirens’.
